As the Graphika team continues to attract world-class talent across technology, marketing, and analysis, we are thrilled to welcome a new, noteworthy hire to our leadership team. This month, Ben Nimmo joins as our first-ever Director of Investigations.
This year continues to be a pivotal one for Graphika, as more consumers, academic institutions, human rights organizations, and businesses feel the pressure of disinformation online. Graphika has been making substantial investments in the technology and team that will support these groups as the disinformation threat proliferates and evolves.
Ben was a natural choice to join the team. Over the past five years, he has built a reputation as an expert commentator in online forums, trusted media outlets and high-profile onstage events helping to decipher the disinformation landscape. Most recently, he was a Senior Fellow for Information Defense at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) where he analyzed patterns of online disinformation and influence operations across varying platforms and geographical regions. Ben has been most interested in analyzing and explaining the full spectrum of information operations, from state-controlled media outlets, through trolls, bots and like farms, to unwitting amplifiers of hostile disinformation. Ben’s work at this think tank in exposing falsehoods and fake news, documenting human rights abuses, and building digital resilience worldwide align perfectly with Graphika’s own values.
As we continue on Graphika’s mission of mapping the disinformation landscape on a global basis, Ben’s expertise will be essential to identifying and analyzing the world’s greatest threats, adding structure to our approach and maintaining both consistency and clarity to the work we deliver. He’s already at work sharing his expertise as well, helping the Washington Post better understand the threat of fake social media accounts tied to the recent Hong Kong protests. Expect to hear more from Ben in the future!
