Facebook, X Users Solicit Mifel Bank Card and Account Details, Presenting Risk of Fraud
Spanish-language Facebook and X users are soliciting access to payment cards, account details, and card verification value (CVV) numbers of Mexico-based Mifel Bank accounts to purchase high-demand sports and music event tickets.

Key Finding
Spanish-language Facebook and X users are soliciting access to payment cards, account details, and card verification value (CVV) numbers of Mexico-based Mifel Bank accounts to purchase high-demand sports and music event tickets. This activity creates a high-risk opportunity for scammers; one Facebook user warned of ticket scams using Mifel Bank account details.
Online Activity
- We identified 19 seemingly authentic, Spanish-language Facebook and X posts requesting or soliciting Mifel Bank cards or account details to buy event tickets. Although these posts are not likely scam activity, they present a significant risk of scam and financial loss to any users who engage.
- Most posts asked users to “lend” their Mifel Bank cards or provide their Mifel Bank account details, including CVV numbers. Some requesters claimed they were already in ticket queues.
- We identified 14 posts that explicitly requested card, account, or CVV details. Two requesters used coded language alongside references to Mifel cards or Mifel Bank, such as "BUSCO amistad sincera con tarjeta Mifel" (I'm looking for sincere friendship with a Mifel card).
- Three Facebook posts advertised intermediary ticket-buying services using Mifel Bank cards, listing WhatsApp numbers and prices. They asked for users' personal details – to sell tickets "directly to your Ticketmaster account" – or offered Mifel-client exclusive presale access to sought-after tickets in exchange for payment. These offers increase the threat of credential harvesting, unauthorized transactions, or non-delivery scams.
- One Facebook user has repeatedly warned about a Brenda Rivera allegedly defrauding people seeking tickets to see Mexican musician Elias Medina, using a Mifel Bank account. These claims are unverified but consistent with the risks posed by sharing bank account details.
